We were delighted to stay at Happy Holiday Homes, a convenient, practical, quiet, comfortable apartment for our 10 days on Bonaire.
The apartments are arranged for divers’ and snorkelers’ ease and convenience. We parked a few feet from our small, oleander filled patio. A hose and tub for rinsing gear, sandals (and feet!) are right out front, a lockable closet outside the front door houses wet gear over night, the inside floors are tiled for easy cleaning and out back are clothes lines and hooks for drying. The kitchen is equipped with the necessary utensils, dishes and pots to prepare simple meals, minimal but perfectly functional, and so convenient we just relaxed for dinners at home nearly every night. (The major supermarket is about 5 minutes away.) Our king bed was appropriately firm and comfortable and we found the ceiling fans provided the right temperature for us so we didn’t ever need the air conditioning. We did manage to let a few mosquitoes in every day, but they were not a serious problem. After reading a lot about theft on the island, we were happy to find a secure safe in our closet, but none of our belongings were ever bothered in our room either.
Louise is very accommodating and attentive, happy to answer any questions and offer advice gathered from her life on the island. The name she chose for her complex is fitting. We found a Happy Holiday Home, low key, relaxing, quiet, sensible, functional and pleasant. We awakened to sweet mocking bird serenades, enjoyed the yellow warblers and chibi chibi’s flashing through the oleander, and the occasional humming bird or parakeet. The proximity to shoreline dive sites made four sunrise snorkels easy for me while my wife dozed a little longer. We walked over to watch sunsets on the water. We cooled off in the constant trade winds. We relaxed into our comfortable holiday home.
The access to the reef surrounding Bonaire is exceptional, as are the fish every time you enter the water. I was thrilled by the variety and abundance of fish every location we visited. The beauty of the reef and the plentitude of fish on Klein Bonaire made it our favorite snorkeling site. From Happy Holiday Homes, it is a short drive into town where we found easy parking and took the inexpensive water taxi to spend full days on Klein Bonaire. In addition to the drift snorkel, which is well advertised, one can walk west along the island and access several additional sites from shore. Leonora’s Reef offered our best turtle viewing, but nature changes constantly and none of the descriptions of dive sites necessarily reflect what you will see the moment you are there.
The location of Happy Holiday Homes makes for an easy drive over to the Lac area for windsurfing as well.
We were sad to leave Louise and her Happy Holiday Homes. We miss the fish! We certainly will return.

:) Thank you Louise for fitting us in with our last minute request to stay with you. As usual, we loved our stay. (even if the horn blowers kept us up one of the evenings). As expected, a very clean and well stocked unit - even had the right channel on the tv to watch the football playoff game! And thank you so much for the grocery addition! You always take such good care of us.
We'll be back again someday!
We stayed at the Happy Holiday Homes for a week during Christmas and enjoyed the location of the homes and the personal service Louise provided. Rooms were spacious, clean and outside space was ideal for cleaning and storage of our dive gear. We will certainly return to Bonaire and Happy Holiday Homes.
